In order to achieve high density and capacity while also controlling costs, proper&nbsp;cabling is very important, including the selection of&nbsp;optical module&nbsp;and jumper combinations. In this article, we take 10G data center as an example to explore&nbsp;how to choose in real-world&nbsp;scenario.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ascentoptics.com\/10g-dac-aoc\/\" target=\"_blank\">10G SFP+ cable<\/a> include\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ascentoptics.com\/10g-dac-aoc\/\" target=\"_blank\">10G SFP+ DAC<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/ascentoptics.com\/10g-sfp-aoc\/\" target=\"_blank\">10G SFP+ AOC<\/a>. These cables, along with\u00a0they and 10G SFP+\u00a0optical modules,\u00a0are commonly used\u00a0for data center top-of-rack (ToR) cabling optical devices.\u00a0They are used to connect small access switches and servers. 10G <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/ascentoptics.com\/blog\/ultimate-guide-to-sfp-transceiver-modules\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"SFP+\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\">SFP+<\/a> AOC and 10G SFP+ optical modules are common optical devices for data center top-of-rack\u00a0(ToR) cabling, used\u00a0to connect small access switches and servers. Among them, 10G SFP+ DAC is used for short distance connection within the rack, while 10G SFP+ AOC is suitable for inter-rack connections\u00a0between ToR and EoR switches.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ascentoptics.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/image-44.png\" alt=\"Inter-rack connections\u00a0between ToR and EoR switches\" class=\"wp-image-368\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>Traditional cabling architectures often adopt centralized cabling, such as EOR and MOR, while TOR cabling structures adopt point-to-point cabling, which reduces the number of cabling and saves costs to a certain extent. In addition, 10GBASE-T modules can maximize the use of existing copper structure cabling, further reducing expenses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>10G SFP+ optical modules require the&nbsp;use of single-mode or multi-mode fiber optic patch cords to achieve transmission&nbsp;distances of up to 100km, but the maintenance cost of fiber optic cabling systems is relatively high.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>SFP+ DAC high-speed cable is the least expensive of these three products, with the only drawback being its very limited transmission distance of\u00a0up to 10 meters. It\u00a0is more suitable for cabling connections within and between racks.
