Compared to traditional 4x25G LR4 and ER4 Lite solutions, the single-wave 100G LR1\/ER1 offers the following advantages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Only one optical chip is used at the transmitter and one at the receiver, resulting in a simpler product design, lower device costs, and lower production and manufacturing costs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The use of a cleaner traditional TO hermetic package results in fewer production man-hours and lower manufacturing costs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It can directly interconnect with 400G modules of 4x100G <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"PAM4\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\">PAM4<\/a>, further enhancing the capacity of the link and the flexibility of networking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, the 4x25G solution also has its non-negligible advantages. The 4x25G solution uses NRZ modulation, which is a more mature technology, and the cost of a single device is lower. The current power consumption of 100G LR1\/EM1 is still slightly higher than that of 100G LR4\/ER4 Lite.
